Please Touch Museum Wedding Photographer

As a Please Touch Museum wedding photographer, this image is one of my favorite photographs from the entire 2011 wedding season. It's always hard to choose a favorite Please Touch Museum image, because the venue is one of my favorites!

Getting ready documentary image

The bride was getting ready at her father’s Washington Square Park home in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She had hung her wedding gown in his study and the littlest flower girl was playing in the room nearby. The little girl realized that when she threw the tulle skirt of her flower girl dress into the air that it floated down slowly around her. I photographed this scene for a few minutes before I realized that the flower girl was playing for my camera and that the moments were not entirely natural.

I chose to sit down on the ground and keep the camera up to my eye until the little girl forgot that I was there. After a few moments her mother appeared in the doorway behind me and the little girl, delighted, threw her dress in the air for her mother. The photograph that resulted showed a spontaneous moment between the flower girl and her mother rather than a picture of a girl mugging for my camera.

Technical details of getting ready pictures

I photographed this scene with my 24-70mm because the room was so small that had I chosen any other lens I wouldn't have been able to include both the flower girl and the bridal gown in the frame. the lighting in this photograph is entirely natural. There was a large window on one wall of the bride’s father’s study, and it provided the room with beautiful natural light. That natural light contrasted with the dark wood of the walls made a wonderful juxtaposition between brightness and shadow. I love the simplicity of the dress hanging on the wall and how it is in contrast to the theatrical movement of the flower girl.

WPPI 16x20 Print Competition

I entered this image into the Bridal Party category of the 16x20 International Print Competition at WPPI. It received a Accolade of Excellence and hung in the print gallery for viewing during the week of WPPI in 2012. It remains one of my favorite wedding moments documented during my career. Having daughters of my own I know how quickly they grow up and I am certain that this fleeting moment of this beautiful little girl will be treasured for years to come by her family. I can only imagine that one day this image will hang on the flower girl’s parent’s wall next to an image of this girl as the bride she will one day become!

Please Touch Museum Weddings

This image also exemplifies what I love about Please Touch Museum weddings.  This image exudes a sense of casual glamour, much like the Please Touch Museum itself!  This image is a bit dramatic, much like the Please Touch Museum.  And this image makes me smile, which is what happens every time I visit the Please Touch Museum!

The Please Touch Museum is a Philadelphia wedding venue located in picturesque Fairmount Park.  It is close to another popular Philly wedding venue, the Horticulture Center.  The Please Touch Museum consists of Memorial Hall, which is a building from Philly's 1876 Centennial Exhibition.

The Please Touch Museum can seat up to a thousand guests for a seated wedding reception.  There aren't many Philadelphia wedding venues that can do the same!

Please Touch Museum's Hamilton Hall

Many of my favorite Philly wedding receptions have taken place in the Please Touch Museum's Hamilton Hall.  I love the enormous forty-foot Statue of Liberty arm, made entirely out of toys!  I love the soaring high ceilings of Hamilton Hall.  I also love the elegant marble floors, which set off any reception decor so beautifully.  It's truly an exceptional space for a reception and dinner.  It's got an elegant charm with a sense of quirk, which can lighten up even the most serious of events!

Please Touch Museum's South Foyer

There are not many wedding venues in Philly that can accommodate both indoor wedding ceremonies and wedding receptions without having to "flip" the room.  The Please Touch Museum can, right in the South Foyer!  You can have your wedding ceremony here, then move straight into cocktail hour and your reception in Hamilton Hall.

Unique Philadelphia wedding venue

If you are considering getting married in Philadelphia and are looking for a quirky space, check out the Please Touch Museum!  It will satisfy any need for elegance, while infusing your event with a sweet charm unique to this special wedding venue!
