Wedding Photographer at Manhattan Penthouse

I love photographing the wedding of other photographers. But do you know what’s almost more awesome? Photographing the wedding of the child of a photographer. The bride at this Manhattan Penthouse wedding is the daughter of a very talented wedding photographer, and it was an honor to have been commissioned to document the day. This photograph was taken at the very end of the father-daughter dance during the wedding reception. I was very careful to position my assistant with our off-camera flash so that the bride’s father was illuminated with light. When I exposed properly for his face the rest of the scene faded away into shadow. I love how this lighting technique brings the viewer’s eye directly to the father of the bride and creates a sense of drama in the final photograph. I also love that you can see some of the wedding guests in the background and one of them is even applauding. This helps further establish a sense of time and place in the image.
