Wedding Photography at Liberty House

Liberty State Park is a stunning location. It has stellar views of Ellis Island, the Manhattan skyline, and the Statue of Liberty. If you’re taking portraits there you have many, many options for backdrops. One would be the Central Railroad of New Jersey Terminal. Another would be the Hudson River itself. This image was taken at the Empty Sky 9/11 Memorial. This intensely moving memorial honors the 749 individual that lost their lives in the great tragedy of 9/11. There is great controversy as to whether using it in portraits is all right - and I understand that. I chose to incorporate the memorial into this portrait because of what it symbolizes. The memorial website states that the walls encourage visitors to look forward towards the future, something eloquently embodied by a wedding. I feel that photographing a portrait with this memorial is a tribute, not an offense. May we all always look ahead from that terrible day with light, love, and hope for the future.
