Rainy weather on a wedding day always presents a challenge when it comes to outdoor portraits. While there are often cute opportunities to photograph the bride and groom under umbrellas I always do everything that I can to ensure that the portraits that I make for my clients on their wedding day are unique to them and their specific event.
The bride and groom on this particular rainy day in Charlotte, North Carolina were troopers and were willing to venture out into the gentle drizzle to make a few portraits before their wedding reception at the Wells Fargo Center.
I found a wonderful shaded area under a tree that allowed for a little spill of diffused cloudy light to filter in and illuminate the bride and groom.
I chose to photograph the scene with a long lens in order to compress the bride and groom off of the water fountain in the background. I love the look of the water in the background because it perfectly illustrates the mood and atmosphere of the rainy day. I also love the gentle moment between the bride and groom because at that second the rain was the furthest thing from their minds!
