I’ve mentioned before how wonderful the Philadelphia area is for engagement portraits. While Center City Philly fills my heart with joy, there are also so many beautiful locations that might not be right in the heart of downtown. I photographed engagement sessions in so many gorgeous suburbs of Philadelphia, and it has been wonderful to work in a multitude of gorgeous locations. This couple chose to have their engagement pictures taken near the bride’s parents home. This home is also meaningful to them, as it is the location for their wedding day. On their wedding day, this lawn will be turned into their reception location. I think that makes this engagement portrait even more powerful. The time of day that I prefer shooting engagement sessions varies by the season. In the winter months, I suggest that we start shooting around 3 o’clock in the afternoon. It gets dark so early in those months, and we want to make sure that we use what little sun we will have! In the warmer months, I usually begin shooting engagement session somewhere between 4 o’clock and 5 o’clock. This ensures that we will be outside as the sun makes its way towards the horizon. The golden hour is simply magic when it comes to lighting, and if we can be outside during that time for engagement portraits, it will be ideal. Just one look at this image will show you why that golden hour is so amazing!
