I lived in New York many years ago, briefly, and I remember the Meatpacking District as an undesirable neighborhood. Imagine my surprise when I returned years later, only to find it a vibrant, transformed place full of high-end boutiques and popular restaurants. The Meatpacking District is in Manhattan, and it extends from West 14th Street South over to Gansevoort Street. It also stretches from the Hudson River on the east to Hudson Street. It’s also the location of the Standard Hotel and the beginning of the High Line, an urban park on an elevated old railroad spur. The High Line and the Meatpacking District are perfect locations for Manhattan engagement pictures, because there are so many different options for backgrounds! There are gorgeous, historic cobblestone streets just a walk away from lush greenery and brilliant foliage. There are industrial walls, graffiti, and gritty street scenes just steps from stunning skyline views. If you’re considering a Manhattan engagement session, you might want to consider the Meatpacking District and the High Line. It’s especially beautiful there in the winter, when the brilliant late-year light pours down the streets at sunset. This portrait was photographed on one of the coldest days of the winter, and the light is golden like it’s still autumn. I love the old New York streets right next to the modern buildings and the couple’s modern attire.
