Wedding Photojournalism
In all the years of entering print competitions I have never been more upset about a score as I was about the 81 that I received for this print. Entered into the Photojournalism Division : Wedding Photojournalism of the WPPI 16x20 print competition in Las Vegas in 2013, a score of 81, according to the official WPPI 16x20 competition rules, reflects a "good standard of professional skill, creativity and technique". I have never wanted to jump up and scream "I OBJECT!" after receiving a score the way I did after receiving this particular score. I believe that the skill that it takes to find this moment and execute this image is well above and beyond a "good standard of professional skill, creativity and technique"…but that is why print competition is such a wonderful, difficult, maddening, frustrating, exhilarating thing! I know that this image made my clients thrilled, evident by its’ display in the clients’ home. I went back to this family’s house several years later to photograph the wedding of another sister, only to find this image proudly displayed in a frame. That means more to me than any award or ribbon.(although man, I really wanted that award….!)Keywords: Richland Center (7), Wisconsin (7).
