New York City Wedding Photography
There are no words to describe this elaborate rooftop wedding reception at Manhattan’s Skylight West wedding venue. Meticulously crafted and designed by top-notch wedding designer David Tutera, the open-air rooftop was entirely illuminated by fallen chandeliers and candelabras. This candlelit space was the perfect canvas for the incredible meal served by New York’s finest caterer, Sonnier and Castle. When I saw the setup for the reception I knew that I had to do everything that I could to capture it in a manner befitting its grandeur. I noticed a water tower to the side of the roof and wondered if I would be completely crazy to climb all the way to the top in order to take a photograph! World-renowned cinematographer Ray Roman was documenting the event as well and he and I decided together to make the climb. With my 24-70mm strapped across my back I climbed all the way to the top of the water tower and took this photograph while hanging on with only one hand. While it might not have been the safest maneuver, I absolutely got my shot. Utilizing the wide angle lens to photograph this scene meant that I was able to incorporate Manhattan’s skyline into the photograph. Including the buildings surrounding the rooftop in this scene gave the entire tableau a wonderful sense of time and place. New York City is deeply important to both the bride and groom, and I was thrilled to be able to show their party nestled amongst the city that they so love and call home. Keywords: current portfolio (75), David Tutera (17), Indian (61), manhattan (191), new york (503), reception decor (81), Skylight West (17), wedding (1294).
