Why do you recommend it?
Built-in 1911 as a 140 room Vanderbilt Mansion, the Sleepy Hollow Country Club rises above rolling acres of manicured grounds in Scarborough-on-Hudson in Briarcliff, New York. Woodlea, as the clubhouse is known, has been home to some of the most extravagant events and parties for over one hundred years, with marbled fireplaces, coffered ceilings, and extensive carved wood details. The 18th-century décor sets the stage for a memorable day in a historic place.
At the Sleepy Hollow Country Club, it seems like each room, every hallway, offers a fantastic place to be creative with wedding couples. A favorite spot is a curved staircase with wrought iron details, a candelabra sconce, and a giant stained glass picture window, which is nothing short of portrait magic.
Getting ready is relaxed and natural, with several rooms to choose from that can accommodate the size of your wedding party. They are filled with tons of ambient light and high ceilings, which make it easy to creatively capture all the moments of excitement and connection as you prepare for your big day. The backdrop of each room, elegant and classic in décor, is a perfect location to capture those little details from the wedding from the shoes to the veil.
The West Terrace Tent is a popular ceremony and reception site, accommodating up to 400 guests on the stone terrace while protecting them from the elements yet bathing the room in ambient light. They offer an on-site tent with cascading fabric that covered the ceiling and flows down the walls add a touch of whimsy to the overall Great Gatsby feeling.
Indoor ceremonies and receptions can be held in several different rooms, each featuring its turn of the century character. Curved walls and alcoves with antique details, and crystal chandeliers with lights that twinkle and warm the room, the feel of the space feels grand and classic. Family and friends can enjoy a cocktail hour on the expansive lawn taking in the sunset and the gorgeous vistas, or in the library, which is drenched in books and antiques, creating a myriad of textures.
Among the rolling hills, and views of the Hudson River is a fantastic, old, hand-made wood bridge. Its simplicity in design is a testament to its age. I love capturing a couple strolling along the wood slats of the bridge, while blue skies stretch out around them. Sleepy Hollow weddings are unique because they are steeped in New York history, and is a perfect choice for couples who love that vibe.
