Headshots for Actors New York

I adore photographing headshots for actors in New York.

I began my headshot career in an odd way, and the woman in this picture was part of it!

I was a young photographer, newly in business. I had been shooting weddings for a few years. I had my first studio, which I rapidly outgrew. I moved into another larger studio with abundant natural light.

This incredible actress and performer hired me to shoot her headshots her senior year in college. Little did I know that ten years later she'd be back in my studio! In the years after her headshot session, she moved to New York - and so did I!

We both found ourselves in New York, ten years after we first met. What are the odds? We reconnected again via Facebook, and I also had the honor of shooting her most recent headshots.

Many of those college seniors are now working on Broadway and in New York theatre. Two of them are in Hello Dolly! with Bette Midler. One of them is in Book of Mormon. One is in Groundhog Day and has been in Matilda. And so forth.

Since those college years, I've photographed the wedding of one of those college seniors. I've seen her have a child of her own. I've seen these "kids" grow up, move to New York, make their mark in the theatre scene, and go from success to success.

It's amazing where life takes you, isn't it?

I had no idea when I met this handful of college seniors that I would one day be taking headshots for actors in New York. When I met them, New York seemed so far away. A job photographing performers seemed so unreal, and now it's a reality.

No matter where life takes you, if you have a dream, FOLLOW IT. I remember my first visit to New York and Broadway, seeing all the headshots in the Playbills and thinking "I wish I could do that."

I remember seeing all of the Joan Marcus promotional images and thinking "I wish I could do that."

I remember looking at the bright lights of New York and thinking, "I wish I could live here." I wanted to take headshots for actors in New York, and now I do. I take headshots for actors in New York for a living! Talk about living the dream, right?

As they say in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, "Don't dream it, be it." That applies whether you want to be an actor, or whether you want to be a doctor. If you want to take headshots for actors in New York, dream it and be it - I did!
