I did not set out to be a family photographer in New York. But oh, am I ever glad that my path led me to become one!
I moved to New York as a wedding photographer, ready to document weddings in NYC and the surrounding areas. I came armed with almost ten years of wedding photography experience, great skills as a wedding documentarian, and a beautiful portfolio of wedding photographs.
It went great. I was booking weddings, and getting to know my clients. As their wedding dates neared, then passed, I realized that I wasn't just a hired vendor at these events. I was the documentarian of their lives, creating images for them at a crucial time in their family history. I have always been honored to be a wedding photographer, but the legacy of my work became clearer as my clients grew, aged, and began adding to their families.
On a shelf above the desk that I am sitting at right now is my family library. It's a shelf of linen-bound albums, full of pictures of my daughters. Some of those images I took myself, documenting the years from babyhood to adulthood. Some of those images were captured by other portrait photographers. These books are precious to me.
As my clients began having babies of their own, it was only natural that I became not just their wedding photographer, but their family photographer. Beginning with their wedding, then continuing for years to come.
I have documented babies, children, teens, tweens, and everything in between. From a one year old's cake smash to my own stepdaughters in their college years, I am honored to help create heirlooms for growing families.
