One of the things that I talked to my client about a lot is the time of year that they want to take their engagement portraits. The first thing that I recommend is not having your engagement portraits taken in the same season that you will be married in. If you are having a winter wedding, consider another season for your engagement pictures. If you are hoping for brilliant fall foliage on your wedding day, consider some snowy engagement portraits, or engagement photos against the brilliant spring cherry blossoms. It’s nice to have that contrast in your images. This couple was planning an early summer wedding, and we knew that the trees would be brilliant and green on their wedding day. They wanted a different look for their engagement pictures, and I completely agree. We chose a beautiful fall day in Prospect Park for their engagement session. Brooklyn’s Prospect Park is always beautiful, but it is especially brilliant in the late fall season. I love the pool of light that the bride and groom are standing in, and how it is surrounded by the dark reds and oranges of the autumn leaves. If you are looking to have your pictures taken in Manhattan or Brooklyn, and want to capture the fall leaves in all of their glory, I highly recommend booking your engagement session in the last week of October or the first weeks of November. If I look back at the engagement sessions that I photographed over the past several years, these are the weeks where the trees have been at their most beautiful!
