Creating New York actor headshots is one of my favorite things about being a photographer in NYC.
I love getting to know every actor that comes through my studio. I love hearing their individual stories. What has brought them to New York? What are their dreams? Where do they see their career in one year, five years, ten years?
It's a treat to talk to every single person that I get to work with. I cannot stress enough how much I adore the headshot process, and getting to know each actor that trusts me with this crucial photo shoot!
I am often asked what type of backdrop I use for my New York headshots. It's not an easy answer, as there are really three popular background choices:
While the trend in the past used to be to use an outdoor location, a more "studio style" background is more in vogue these days. By "studio style" background I don't mean a pull-down sheet of paper like you'd think of in an old portrait studio or for your pictures every year that you were in elementary school!
I often use a simple backlit window as my "white" background, and a dimly lit shadowed room as my "black" background. These two choices give depth to the image, while keeping the background neutral.
Whatever you choose to do, you do not want your background to compete with your headshot subject. One should never see the background before they see the actor in front of it!
During your headshot session, we will usually shoot a variety of images in front of a lighter background. We will also shoot a variety of images in front of a darker background.
