Wedding Photographer at Winterthur

In the first years of wedding photography most couples did not have the funds to hire a photographer to document the entire day. Most formal wedding portraits were taken before or after the actual day of the event itself.

It wasn’t until the 1860’s that wedding couples were photographed in their actual wedding clothes - or at their actual wedding! As technology evolved most wedding portraits were taken in the studio, involving the wedding party as time went by. It wasn’t until after World War Two that actual event photorgaphy begin.

Despite the evolution of the art form, I am still drawn to a nice, classic portrait of the newlyweds together. At this 2013 Hotel duPont wedding, the bride and groom set aside a great amount of time in which to take portraits together.

We went to Gibraltar Gardens for the portrait session, and were able to make some incredible images during the sunset hour. I normally shy away from dappled light, preferring beautiful strong sunlight, but I love how the dappled light here creates a delicate vignette around the couple.

We had set up a more formal photograph, but I always like to let the moments develop naturally, even during a more formal part of the day. I had the bride and groom smiling directly at me, but made sure to keep the camera on them after that "pose" was over. This is the moment that ensued...and I am so glad I waited to capture it before moving on to a new location!
