Elkins Park Wedding PhotographyI adore beautiful light and I love long veils, so it’s not a surprise that I’m over the moon when a long veil catches the light just right. At this gorgeous Elkins Estate wedding in 2012 the sunset over Elkins Park was extra-gorgeous during the portrait session of the bride and groom. We were leaving one location via horse-drawn carriage to go to our next portrait spot and the bride stopped for a second to detangle her veil. My instinct was to have my assistant step in and help her but the second I saw the bride throwing her veil around in the light I stopped my assistant for a moment! I love the natural movement of the bride and the veil; this is something that couldn’t be posed as naturally as it occurred! I was seconds away from shooting this scene with the 70-200mm at 200mm but I realized that if I backed away and stayed at 70mm I’d be able to see more of the surrounding scene. This would give the image a better sense of place that I felt strengthened the final photo.
